FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Below are some of the most common questions about psychotherapy and psychological coaching. If you’d like to ask something not covered here, you’re welcome to get in touch.

What happens in the first session?

The initial consultation is a space for us to get to know each other. We’ll explore what’s bringing you to therapy and discuss how we might work together. There’s no obligation to continue, it's an opportunity to see if it feels like the right fit.

What kind of issues do people bring to therapy?

People come to therapy for a wide range of reasons, from anxiety, burnout and relationship difficulties to identity exploration, grief, or creative block. Some arrive with a specific issue; others come with a general sense that something isn't quite right and want space to reflect

How often will we meet?

Therapy sessions typically take place once a week, on the same day and at the same time.
If you're navigating a particularly difficult period, we may decide to meet twice weekly for additional support. Fortnightly sessions can also be arranged in some cases, although weekly work is usually recommended for continuity and depth.

Coaching sessions are more flexible and follow a bespoke rhythm. Depending on your needs, we may meet regularly, arrange short term intensives, or work together on a project by project basis.

How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long, which is the standard length for most therapeutic work.

Coaching sessions, however, may vary depending on the scope and goals of the work. Some sessions may run longer, for example, 75 or 90 minutes, or take the form of deep dive intensives. We’ll decide together what structure will be most effective.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I work with clients both in person and online, using a secure, encrypted platform for remote sessions. This can offer greater flexibility and accessibility, especially for international clients.

Do you work with people outside the UK?

Yes, I work with international clients via video call. I do my best to accommodate different time zones and accept PayPal for overseas payments.

How much does it cost?

My standard therapy fee is from £90 per session.
Fees for coaching work, particularly in areas such as leadership, business, or creative project support, are set individually based on the nature and scope of the work. If you're interested in consulting, please feel free to get in touch for a bespoke quote.

How do I pay?

I send an invoice at the end of each month, which includes my bank details for BACS transfer. For clients outside the UK, PayPal is available.

Why is therapy so expensive?

Therapy can feel like a significant financial commitment, and it is. But it’s also an investment in your long term emotional health, relationships, and overall wellbeing. A good therapeutic relationship can support you through life’s most difficult moments, increase your resilience, improve decision making, and help shift long standing patterns.

Fees reflect not just the time spent in the session, but also the therapist’s training, supervision, ongoing professional development, and the emotional and intellectual presence brought to each session. Like paying for a gym membership, coaching, or education, therapy is an investment in your quality of life, with benefits that often extend far beyond the time spent in the room.

How is coaching different from therapy?

While therapy focuses on emotional insight and personal growth, coaching is more goal oriented and context specific. I offer coaching to clients, particularly leaders, entrepreneurs, and creatives, who are seeking psychological input on professional or artistic challenges. This might involve working on team dynamics, leadership identity, or the emotional shape of a creative project.

Coaching work tends to be more flexible in format, and may not follow a weekly schedule. Depending on your needs, we might meet regularly, work intensively over a short period, or connect on an ad hoc basis throughout the course of a project.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, everything you share is held in strict confidence.
The only exception would be if I believed there was an imminent risk of serious harm to you or someone else. In such cases, I may need to involve others, but I would always aim to discuss this with you first.
